As many of you know I am currently a finalist in the McCall’s Quilting design star challenge. Our first challenge was to create a quilt top (no smaller than 24”) using only two traditional blocks. The blocks we use can be from these sources: Maggie Malone’s 5,500 Quilt Block Designs (Sterling Publishing Co, 2004), Barbara Brackman’s Encyclopedia of Appliqué (C & T Publishing, 2009), or Barbara Brackman’s Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns (American Quilter’s Society, 1993). We can use multiples of the same block and we can use the same block in different sizes.
The above picture is a peak at the center of my quilt. As you probably could have guessed its appliquéd. The title of this block is called “Democratic Rose” and its block 41.99 in Barbara Brackman’s appliqué book.
For the color scheme I decided to give in to my love of pink and lime green. I’m calling it Raspberry Limeade because that’s what it looks like to me and because it’s summer and that’s my favorite drink.
