Design Wall Monday

Happy Monday everyone.  Now that Tweet 8 is up on the blog I am back to Christmas here at my house. After that I’m moving on to fall…hmmm…maybe I have my seasons mixed up…oh well.

Here’s a glimpse of the Christmas floral bouquet I’m working on right now. I am having a blast making it and it will be a pattern in my shop soon. I have the perfect spot for it in my house.

That's all I have for right now. Today is my husbands birthday so my daughter and I are planning a BIRTHDAY DINNER. I'm just hoping that the calorie intake doesn't completely erase the exercise class I just took, after all it's not MY birthday.

My Tweets Block 8

As promised here is block 8 of the 2011 Block of the Month My Tweets.

Since these blocks finish at 14” and many of the blocks are asymmetrical I want to talk about printing your patterns. Each pattern has four downloads. Print each of these and tape them together to make your full sized pattern. Here is a diagram for doing this.

We will do this the same way for all the patterns since it allows the patterns to be easily printed on a home printer.

Design Wall Monday

Happy Monday Friends! I hope everyone enjoyed the mitten extravaganza last week.

Now it’s time to get snapping on My Tweets Block 8. Yep, you read that right, we are on  BLOCK 8!

This is a shot of my table as I get stuff together for this block. Since I’m a little behind and school starts tomorrow for my son I’m going to be MIA until Friday when I will have Block 8 all ready for you!

Mitten Pattern

S’Mitten Quilt

OK, OK these mittens are just too fun. After I was done stitching them I just walked around with a big smile on my face. I used my last nine blocks to make this little lap quilt. Now if the temperature would just go down a bit I might even use it!

S’Mitten Table Runner

I would like to thank blog readers Marilyn and Pam for coming up with the names Smitten for Mittens and S’Mitten for this freebie pattern…I just love those names.

The first thing I did with my S’Mitten blocks was to make myself a shiny new (well not shiny actually) table runner. It’s very simple, just three blocks set on point! I think this is really putting me in the mood for Christmas here. Too bad I have to wait almost four months.

Squaring Up Your Mitten Block

OK, so now that I have 12 mitten blocks I want to square them up as consistently as possible because, let’s face it, like most quilters I know I have OCD. I came up with this simple way to do it that I am sure will work on many simple appliqué blocks.

First, I took my FULL SIZED pattern.

Next, I placed my 9 ½” ruler on top (if you don’t have a 9 ½” ruler just use one that fits)

I traced the pattern with one of my ever present Sharpies.

Now, I placed this on top of my block and cut off the excess.

To remove the Sharpie I just grabbed a little Isopropyl Alcohol ( the regular stuff most people have at home)

And some cotton pads and wiped away the mark.

Easy Peasy.

Design Wall Monday

Here is a little look at my design wall this Monday morning. I am asking myself just WHAT exactly am I going to do with the 12 mitten blocks I sewed last week. I’m thinking a table runner AND a small cozy quilt. If this goes like I think it will I there should be patterns for each of these items up later this week.

Mittens…the pattern

Happy Friday everyone. I’ve made a download of my mittens block to share with you. I kinda went crazy with the mitten making so now I have enough for a small quilt AND a table runner. I’m hoping to get the directions up for these FREE Christmas projects sometime next week…provided I don’t accidentally fall through the bathroom floor (read previous post for enlightenment).

By the way, can anyone think of a better name than Mittens for these projects…the naming part of my brain is having a fart. Sorry I said fart on my blog…blushing.
