So, now that my laundry is done and the remnants of Wyoming and Utah have been removed from my hiking socks it’s time to get back to quilting.
Currently I am working on a new floral block (big surprise eh?) that will be the center of next year’s BOM. I designed the flowers above with a slightly heart shaped petal and I was wondering if my petal technique would work with this shape. It turns out that it does as long as you press in a certain way.
Here’s how to do it.
First, trace your petal on the wrong side of the fabric and cut it out.
Sew a fine running stitch in the seam allowance.
Hold the ends down and oull to tighten the thread.
Dab with starch.
Start pressing at the indented part of the petal.
Press a little further in this same direction.
Here’s your petal.
I’ve pre-assembled five petals into this little flower for my block.
Hi Erin, did I read that correctly NEXT YEARS BOM????!!!! Count me in. I love the designs you make and am enjoying Florabunda to bits. Hug from Anita.

Your instructions are inspiring.
Thanks for taking the time and effort to blog these wonderful ideas so they inspire us to 'just do it'.

Well, I can't wait. It looks very pretty. I followed your instructions for making the petals in block 6 of Florabunda and it turned out pretty nice.
Erin thanks again for everything.

Oh this color combination is absolutely Heavenly. The orange is like sherbet and the blue like summer popsicles - on my screen anyway :o)
I adore these flowers. Thank you for your prolific blog and sharing your creative talent with us. I check your blog everyday. Did I already say that once?
I would like you to visit my Weekly Craft Vlog on YouTube. I am part of a growing group of crafters called Talk To Me Tuesday (TTMT). We show and tell our crafts each week in video form. It's lots of fun and we get to know each other so much better through the addition of video in our online chronicling of our creativity. Here's a link to my channel. My subscriptions are all TTMTers and we have a LiveJournal group too. http://www.youtube.com/user/lunaneela
Have a great weekend :o)

Erin, that flower is great! Next year, huh? I'm going to have to get my butt in gear and do this year's. :)
What do you use as your pressing surface? Is it like Sharon Schamber's?

Thanks
My pressing surface is cotton drill over batting over plywood. I think its like Sharons.

Next year's BOM, hmmmm....that sounds tempting. Maybe 2011 will be the year of applique for me.

It looks so easy when you show us, but mine aren't that beautiful. I will keep practicing
