Thanks to Wendy from Ivory Spring I found Leah Day’s wonderful blog on free motion quilting. Both Wendy and Leah are inspiring me to get a little more serious about improving my free motion quilting. One of the things that has held me back is that my sewing table is well…a table. My parent’s dining room table to be exact. I’ve thought of altering the table so that my machine could sit down into it but the table is solid teak. Every time I look for a sewing table I usually have more than a little sticker shock.
Anyway, Day Style Design’s ( Leah’s online store) has a sewing table made my Arrow that is very affordable. I finally bit the bullet and bought one. But isn’t it just the case that once you decide to do something you need to re-arrange everything else. In my case, I needed to re-arrange my sewing room so I could add this table and still be able to walk. This meant I had to get rid of my parent’s solid teak buffet and find a place for all my stuff that I stored in it. Anyway, long story short, my sewing room got a very thorough purging and cleaning last week and I am absolutely thrilled. Here are my before and after shots.
Here is a picture of the table. The plastic insert hasn’t come yet so machine is sitting on top for now. I know it is small but I can move it over next to my big table for larger projects when I need to.
It was hard letting go of that teak buffet. My parents bought that dining room set when they were first married. I remember polishing the cabinets with Lemon Pledge when I was little. Luckily I sold it to a good home at our neighborhood garage sale so I know someone else will care for it. Funny how you get kinda sentimental ‘bout stuff.
Check back tomorrow for Florabunda Block 10
I have that same sewing table and I LOVE it! I bought mine back in the spring and it's made my sewing so much easier, because I set my machine down in so it's level with the table. Best money I ever spent! :0)

I found Leah's blog awhile ago, too.
I can't wait to try some things. I feel like I could quilt using some of her tips!

I have followed Leah's blog for months now, and saw that she recommends a Gidget table for quilting. Since I recently purchased a used Pfaff Grand Quilter for sit-down quilting, I now find myself needing a table for it. It's that "bite the bullet" thing that's my issue.
I appreciate your comments on this Arrow table and will look forward to hearing what you think of it for free-motion quilting.

I have been eyeing that table for a while now, on Leah's shop and blog. Let us know how you find the table. I really would like to know before buying it, since it has to travel half way around the world...

That table is very neat and not space consuming so it would be perfect for anyone who has a need for it. Thanks for sharing this article. I learned a lot!
