I’m always on the look out for products that help make appliqué easier. Recently I purchased some Floriani Stitch N’ Wash and am having some really nice results with it. This product is very much like the stabilizers that I’ve ordered from Ricky Tims and Sharon Schamber except fusible. Some of you might remember the machine appliqué method I used for the free pot holder project earlier this year. Well this project makes that method so much easier because you can fuse it to your appliqué. I’ve also found that it holds up well to starch and press appliqué and is very effective at preventing dark fabrics from showing through light appliqués.
To use for hand appliqué I just used my Templar template to trace the shape onto the Stitch N’ Wash.
After cutting it out I used my iron to fuse it to the back side of my appliqué fabric.
From here I just do my standard starching and pressing using my Templar template.
Here is a comparison of two tulips I did on a brown background. You can hardly see the brown fabric through the one on the left.
The stabilizer adds some stiffness to your appliqués but it softens with washing and it is very easy to stitch through by hand.
I'm using Floriani Stitch 'n Wash in a hand applique project. I hope it turns out as nice as you say. My struggle is with gluing down points. I just can't seem to get them right.
Hope you're ahead in the McCall's Designer challenge. I've been voting for you every day.

Ooooh, that's a big improvement over the original product!

Erin, How do you think this would do with machine applique? I always satin stitch by machine over the edges. Do you think it would work?

Oooh thanks for the info! That will work great for an applique quilt I'm working on - pink and cream leaves on a brown background!

I can't wait to try this. I have been very unhappy when working with a very light colour with a darker background. Thanks for all you share.
