Hi everyone, hope you all had a nice weekend.

Here’s a shot of my design wall today. I’m playing with a new way of setting blocks. How do you like it? It’s kind of a fun way to finish of a single block into a small quilt. I have a couple of tutorials on how I did this coming this week.

My Tweets Block 3

Happy Friday Everyone.

As promised here is block 3 of the 2011 Block of the Month My Tweets.

Since these blocks finish at 14” and many of the blocks are asymmetrical I want to talk about printing your patterns. Each pattern has four downloads. Print each of these and tape them together to make your full sized pattern. Here is a diagram for doing this.

 

 

We will do this the same way for all the patterns since it allows the patterns to be easily printed on a home printer.

Since some of you would like full size patterns here are the 14" x 14" patterns for blocks 1 -3. I will be adding these for each month.

Another Little Pressing Tip

I’m taking a little break from stitching Block 3 to share my secret weapon pressing tip with you. Are you curious? Here’s a hint, you all probably have these in your house. It works great for getting crinkles out of you sewn appliqué blocks.

Here’s a picture of it.

Yep…that’s an old towel on my ironing board and I’m pretty sure you guys have these too. I learned this from being on the Altar Guild at church believe it or not. Turns out there is no better way to get crinkles out of linens than pressing them on a towel.

First, take your block and place it upside down on the towel.

Spritz with Best Press or just plain water.

Then press and your crinkles will come pretty much out.

I press my pieced blocks this way too…only I do those right side up.

Oh Gosh, I almost forgot...Happy St. Patty's Day...here is a picture I actually took in Ireland. That rainbow is NOT photoshoped in at all.

Stop the Presses

I mean that in literal kind of way too. My local quilt shop sell this starch alternative and I bought a bottle last week. WOW!  It’s really great. I have used it for piecing and I have even used it to press appliqué shapes and it works like a dream. The best part is. You can order it online. They have it at www.maryellenproducts.com and Amazon. It comes in unscented and a variety of scented versions. You can even order it by the gallon. For all you out there who have been tearing your hair out trying to find Stay Flo have at it! Yipee!

Design Wall Monday

Here’s a shot of my design wall this fine Monday morning. I’ve got a couple of things going on here. The third block for my BOM “My Tweets” is ready for stitching. I’m also using the sample I did last week from Ambrosia to come up with a new way to set a block. I’m not too keen on how the fabrics are going together but it’s fine for learning.
