Block 4: Flowers

Here are a few pointers on making the flowers for block 4. Some of you might remember a little tutorial I did about using my petal technique to make heart shaped petals. Here is a similar tutorial on how I did the petals for those large pink flowers in block 4. These are a little different since the petal is wide.

Here is my template.

Here is my cut out fabric.

Start by sewing a small running stitch all the way around the petal.

Now place the fabric right side down and place the template on top.

Holding onto both ends, pull the thread until the fabric cinches in.

Dab with starch.

Press the indent first.

Then move to one side and press that.

Then the other side.

Now you have a nice heart shaped petal with almost zero fuss.

For the tulips in Block 4 I made my template like this.

To baste them together I applied a little glue to the bottom of the center petal .

And Ta Da! A super simple tulip!

Design Wall Monday

Happy Monday Everyone. All I have to say about my weekend can be summed up in one little word…PROM. Feel free to add other words like, sleepless, crabby, nail polish, hair styling and make-up…all of which I totally stink at.

Here is a shot of my design wall this morning. These are three separate projects that are coming soon.

 

 I hope everyone is enjoying Block 4. Later this week I have some tutorials on the flowers and basting. After that I will get to the basket, I promise!

These print correctly, the earlier ones might print correctly but I never tested those...sorry.

Block 4 Problem

I think there might be a problem with stuff lining up in Block 4.

I will fix that this afternoon. Right now I have to go get a kid from school.

sorry for the mess up, I tried something new in Photoshop and I think the scaling was off.

As promised here is block 4 of the 2011 Block of the Month My Tweets.

Since these blocks finish at 14” and many of the blocks are asymmetrical I want to talk about printing your patterns. Each pattern has four downloads. Print each of these and tape them together to make your full sized pattern. Here is a diagram for doing this.

We will do this the same way for all the patterns since it allows the patterns to be easily printed on a home printer.

Design Wall Monday

Happy Monday Everyone.

Here is a shot of my design wall this morning. I will have tutorials on how to do baskets sometime next week. The other block is a secret project…some readers will know ALL about this. Those weird light spots? I used the flash on my camera…nothing to worry about...no ghosts.

Miss Sophie GIVE-AWAY

Introducing Miss Sophie

First, thanks for all the lovely lovely name suggestions for my new pattern…that was super fun.

I decided to stick with the “Miss” theme here and name this one Miss Sophie after my husband’s grandma, Sophie Scarlato. I also found these terrific pictures of her.

Here she is with her family, the Pacholski’s. Her father is right next to her and is the spitting image of my husband…funny how that works.

Her she is with her nephew Richard. Love the hat grandma!

And here she is with her son’s Jimmy and Jackie and another awesome hat!
