Dimensional Iris Part 2

I hope you’re enjoying these funky dimensional flowers. I’m sure having fun thinking these things up.

To finish up you iris you need to make the center petal. Take two pieces of fabric and put them right sides together.

Trace and cut out you center petal shape.

Take your remaining ruffle and sew it to the top/middle of the outer petal.

Now place these petal pieces right sides together.

Sew around the traced line.

To turn it right side out make a small slit in the backside petal (the one that doesn’t have stitching from the ruffle on it) with a seam ripper…carefully.

Turn and press lightly.

Sew a line of gathering stitches along the top backside petal.

Gather and knot.

Pin over other petals and appliqué down (add the stem before you do this)

For the iris bud I am going to use a circle of fabric 1 ¾” across.

Fold in half, wrong sides together.

Fold in one side as shown.

Then the other.

Now, sew a line of gathering stitches along the unfinished edge, gather and knot.

Place bud on background and appliqué down.

The remaining leaves can all be sewn down in the traditional way. Ta Da!

I love these Irises. I love the dimentionality of them.They are also my favorite flower. Thanks for sharing your ceativity and imagination with us. Now I just have to screw up my courage and try to make one for my self.
