Aurifil Pleading....(scroll down for most recent posts)

OK everyone I have a wild idea. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE Aurifil thread for applique. The problem is that I cannot find the small spools anywhere except the internet and the only thing I can find is a $700 suitcase which I can't afford. I think it would be really wonderful if they started selling packets of the smaller spools much like they do with the larger spools. I'm thinking something like a packet of 10 greens, a packet of 10 blues etc etc etc. That way those of us who use it for applique could start building a collection with all those lovely colors.

So, now for my wild idea...why don't we ask them for this? Maybe if we all ask nicely, they might do this. Here is how you can contact them:

I order smaller collections from Cotton Club. From their home page just pick "aurifil thread club" and you'll see all the 10 small spool collections they offer.

Hi Erin, I'll add my 2 cents to the comments. I have ordered the small spools of 50 wt. Aurifil thread from The Cotton Club, All That Thread, and Pacific Rim Quilters. All That Thread has the largest selection as they are also a distributor selling to quilt shops. I hope that you are able to get al the Aurifil that you want. Once I tried it, I was hooked. I ended up buying all the colors in 50 wt. (small spools), as well as all the colors in the 28 wt. (large spools). When I look at all that thread it reminds of having a new box crayons as a child. Aurifil has already produced 2 collection boxes of the small 50 weight spools. Marti Michell & Kaye England each selected 10 colours to make up their boxes and there is also a set of 10 small 40wt spools selected by Pat Sloan.

Tristan Threads in Richmond B.C. is clearing out their aurifil threads in all sorts of different weights, cotton, polyester, wool.

Check them out and see if you like what they have left.

Have you tried the silk thread by Superior Threads (www.superiorthreads.com/)? It is absolutely wonderful for applique. I've never had a thread disappear into the fabric like it before. If you can get a fairly close match on color, you just CAN'T tell that you have appliqued around your shape. I have several that I accidentally duplicated the color on and would be willing to send you one spool to try. Just e-mail me (myraung@yahoo.com) and let me know.

Sorry, but thought I should tell you: the silk from Superior Threads is 100 wt. and VERY strong. I just love it.
