I have been going in circles here these past few days thinking about a Block of the Month that has BOTH piecing and applique. I have been really wanting to make a Christmas quilt and I saw this fabric recently at Fat Quarter Shop and had myself a bit of a swoon. The way I figure it, if you don't like piecing you can make the applique blocks twice in different colors and if you don't like applique you can do the same with the pieced blocks. AND if you don't celebrate Christmas you can just do it in non-Christmas fabric and you will be fine (it will be mostly the colors that make it Christmas-y).
Also, it will have a large center pattern (I'm thinking both pieced and appliqued so you can choose). Like in years past, the center block will be for sale but the rest will br free.
Thoughts?
Sounds great

Sounds like fun, count me in! I've had my eye on that Christmas fabric also. Love the colors. Will you list how much fabric we'll need for the quilt? I don't want to under buy and run out for the blocks.

I love Nancy Halvorsen's fabric. She put out a spring line that was gorgeous a few years ago and since then I have been picking up her Xmas line too. You could not have chosen a better line to work with.
I'm a piecer that loves applique so I can definitely relate to your idea.

Seems that there should be plenty enough versatility for everyone! My only problem...is that both of the fabric collection you have shown are gorgeous...and I might have to just do two quilts!
Hugs,
Kathy

I love this idea! I've been following you for a couple of years and joined the Yahoo group, but am still intimidated by a lot of applique (although I adore how it looks). I think this would be a great way to get my feet wet! You can count me in!

Gorgeous fabrics! I agree with what was said earlier that it sounds like you have a lot of "versatality" in mind. Go for it!

Great work Erin, you are most thoughtful and generous, can't wait to see what you have planned. I agree with an earlier comment of letting us know fabric requirements, I did my tweets, my fist hand applique, and was concerned the way through not knowing if I had enough fabric, I did make it though!

Super excited about a new BOM coming.. Whooooohoooo! Not sure about those fabrics.. I will have to see them in play. You are great at picking out fabrics of course, but some of them seem to have larger prints and that scares me with applique. It is so hard to see how big a print is when you see a fabric selection like that online and that is why I rarely purchase anything online. I can't tell what it REALLY looks like. In person I can REALLY tell. There has to be a better way to get a feel for the fabrics in a collection for the person who is on this end of the computer..HAS TO!
