Now that I have everything basted and stitched in the ditch, it's time to start filling the background with a filler pattern. My go to filler is a paisley. I find it easy to do and it makes my appliques pop. I start at the center and work outwards. It can be a little fiddly going in and out of the applique shapes so I take my time.
Here is a shot of the vine I want to have for my feathers in the setting triangles. I am not too sure how I want to do my feathers so I am practicing with a pencil first.
Check back next week to see how I finished up.
I love your paisley filler! I've never seen thread basting for machine quilting, though. Doesn't your presser foot ever get hung up on the basting thread? Do you thread baste all of your quilts, or just smaller pieces? I always use the curved safety pins but I hate closing a thousand pins and they add so much weight to shove around under the needle when I'm quilting.

This is such a lovely, cheerful piece. I. Really enjoying reading about your quilting approach. Thanks for taking the time to post up all your lovely work. I find the curved pins a nuisance too, big holes they leave behind.
