Workshop Wednesday: House Quilt Techniques

Here is a breakdown of the techniques I used to make my newest pattern, Welcome Home.

Many of you have asked if this pattern would work with the current BOM. It doesn't look great when I set it on point but if you wanted to make all the shapes and try tweeking the arrangement it might work. I really wish I had thought of this last fall but who knew back then we would all be sheltering at home. I sure hope you are all staying healthy!

My newest pattern, Welcome Home, is now available.

This quilt finishes at 26" and is easily made from your scraps and stash.

Home Again Block 9...Here come the birds!

Hello Applique Addicts. Here is Home Again Block 9, our very first little bird block. Just in time for spring.

Workshop Wednesday: Workplace Set Up Hack

One thing you might notice if you spend a lot of time appliqueing is your posture deteriorating. Here is my latest set up using a pressing board and yoga blocks.

Yoga blocks are fairly easy to find these days and not terribly expensive. There are several on Amazon. What's really great is that they have 3 heights. Here you can see them on low, medium and high.

I really like this padded pressing surface from June Tailor. You can find it here:

Once you find a good height, place the board on it and you're ready to stitch!

Workshop Wednesday: Save Your Templates

So, since I have been such a speedy stitcher during our isolation period I find I am lacking in applique projects....WHAT!?!...yep!

My first attempt to solve this was to spend an embarrassingly large amount of time looking at online fabric shops. Then I realized that I would have to wait for the fabric to arrive which wouldn't really solve my problem anyway.

So I decided to "shop" my stash and I found this lovely piece of fabric from Kirsten Sevig at Striped Pear Studio. I've been designing a house quilt lately and this was just the push I needed to get me going.

Since I save my templates, I found a few of my "go-to" favorites and jumped right in.Here's the design so far.

Here are some preliminary fabric choices. Now I'm off to start playing and see what happens.

I can't believe it...I'm caught up!

In addition to our statewide stay at home order we are now having a full on snowstorm here. No problem! I am now all caught up with The Quilt Show's Afternoon Delight BOM. I haven't pieced much lately so it was a BLAST to make the pieced blocks...Hmmm now I feel a new project coming on.

Workshop Wednesday: my Key to Productivity

One thing I am always asked is "How do you get so much applique done?"

So here's the big secret...Audiobooks! It's kind of like story time when you were a kid but BETTER because you're sewing too! You can find them at your library or if you're completely addicted an Audible.com membership might be just the thing.

Anyway, here are a few of my stitching favorites...
