Well, it seemed obvious to me that the first Miss Jane block needed a little fabric book...right!?!
Here's how I did it.
Since the book is a bit fiddly I decided to use my freezer paper technique for making larger shapes. You can find this technique here.
I made the spine and the book cover templates out of freezer paper. The oval if from Karen Kay Buckley's Perfect Ovals set (which are a GREAT tool!).
I used the freezer paper templates to make the spine and book cover like this.
Then I used the book cover template to make the back cover just using the bottom edge.
I made the label using the Perfect Oval.
I basted it together by putting the spine onto the back of the book cover, then adding the back cover like this.
Here it is all ready to be added to your applique background.
After I appliqued the book down I added some stem stitching on the lower part, between the covers to mimc pages.
