Peppermint Twist Update!

Since it's almost December and it's snowing here I thought I would post the finishing directions for Peppermint Twist. Mine is still being finished so I don't have any fancy pictures for you. For those of you that ordered the patterns the finishing directions are also in your Downloads from Etsy/Pattern.

Flower of the Week: Bursting Bud

I really cannot think of a name for this little bloom. It's a really cute little bud about to burst open.

Anyway.

The lesson is very similar to our other flowers but just on a smaller scale.

First off, we trace.

Then cut but here I'm cutting a scant 3/16" because it's tiny.

Clip your inner curves. I give each one about 3 snips.

Starch and press. It's helpful to press in SMALL increments here to avoid getting a point.

UH OH! A point!

To deal with mishaps like points and such, I dab a little starch on and re-press until I get the result I want.

Much better.

To make the green part I do the same trace and cut (scant 3/16") and clip the inner points.

 

Starch and press (Ooops forgot the pressing photo).

Turn the points under just like we did with the leaf.

And then glue it all together.

I don't know about you but we have 4" of snow on the ground here...PERFECT weather for sewing! And, just in time I have pattern set 3 ready.

Flower of the Week: Zigzag Flower

This week we are going to combine inner points and outer points to make this fun zigzag flower.

The first steps are tracing and cutting, of course.

Then clipping the inner points.

Now a little starch.

And a little pressing.

Just keep going until you're all the way around. The angle of these points is such that you do't have to tuck in the points like I usually do. If you find you need to tuck you point, you might need to add a smaller seam allowance.

Remove the template.

To put it all together I like to add an extra layer to prevent the black fabric from showing through. I just trace my circle template onto white solid.

And cut it out INSIDE the line.

Then just glue it to the back making sure it doesn't stick out (kinda looks like it is in this photo but it's not).

Then just glue it all together!
